If you’re interested in knowing what work used to look like for miners, you won’t want to miss out on a visit to the Bohumír Mine. Its history doesn’t go back too far, as the mine was opened in connection to the evolving mining industry in the 19th century. The first mentions of the mine came in 1853 and mining was concluded in 1965. The Bohumír Mine wasn’t opened to the public, however, until 2015.
When visiting here, you’ll see for yourself just how difficult mining and quarrying really was. You’ll also see a geological structure of a sedimentary deposit, the machines used by the miners, as well as figurines of miners at work. The gallery with period photography and documentaries, including an original payroll statement from 1954, showcases the rest of the mine’s history. To make you feel like true miners during your visit, you’ll be given an overcoat, helmet, and lamp.
