The brewery in Olivětín is one of the oldest cloister breweries in the Czech Republic. Beer has been made here since 1348 when the brewery was founded by the Order of Saint Benedict. Even today the beer is made according to ancient recipes. The brewery also has its own malthouse and water source (the water comes from the artesian well situated on the grounds of the brewery). Now the only thing missing for making beer is hops. The Broumov Brewery buys Žatec hops.
When visiting the brewery, you will be introduced to the secrets of producing the renowned OPAT beer, which you can then taste at the end of your tour. There is also a permanent exposition here on the history of the brewery as well as a shop selling the local beers. Here, beer is made with a number of special flavours. We recommend trying the pepper-yeast beer, but the honey, ginger, fennel, and lavender options are also good.
